Aubameyang moved to Arsenal in January of 2018 from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £56 million. However, it would have been better if it wasn’t for his poor form in the later stages of his Arsenal career.

Aubameyang has played in a total of five seasons for Arsenal and has had some good and some bad campaigns while plying his trade in north London. The best season for him, however, is between the 2018/19 season and the 2019/20 season when he was banging in the goals for Arsenal.

2018/19: Golden Boot Winner

In the 2018/19 season, although he did not win any trophies with Arsenal, he did manage to grab himself an individual title of Golden Boot winner for that year (although, as mentioned, he had to share it with two others. He also scored eight goals in Europe (in the Europa League) and one goal in the FA Cup. Even though Aubameyang didn’t manage to win any club competitions during that season, it was still a fairly big success with him establishing himself as one of the best strikers in England and certainly the top dog at Arsenal.

2019/20: FA Cup Win

In the 2019/20 season, however, Aubameyang managed to win the FA Cup with Arsenal and gained his first trophy for the club with a 2-1 victory over rivals Chelsea scoring both goals for Arsenal in the match. Aubameyang managed again to score a respectable 22 goals in the Premier League however narrowly missed out on the golden boot that year to Jamie Vardy of Leicester who scored 23 goals.

In the FA Cup, Aubameyang managed to score an impressive four goals in two games but, unfortunately, his team did not make it very far in the competition so was unable to add to his tally. It was the same with the Europa League where in six games he managed to score three goals but due to being knocked out earlier than expected, again was unable to improve his goal tally for the season.

Overall, it is safe to conclude that Aubameyang’s most successful season with the Gunners was the 2018/19 season based on his personal achievements and goals.

When Aubameyang came to Arsenal from Dortmund for a fee of £56 million, fans had big expectations due to his success in Germany. To a large extent, he lived up to these expectations but, in many ways, he also fell somewhat short.

Aubameyang was a great striker for Arsenal when he first moved in 2018, scoring many goals and helping them qualify for European competitions and win other domestic silverware during his time. However, during his later years with Arsenal, Aubameyang started to lose his form and only managed to score 14 goals in 43 appearances in the Premier League during his last two seasons at Arsenal.

Many fans started to become frustrated with Aubameyang during this time and wanted to see him back to his old self and scoring goals, but this never really happened. Eventually, Aubameyang had a falling out with the club over his playing time and contract. After being left out of a north London derby for disciplinary reasons, he was forced to train on his own until the situation was resolved. But it never really was and this eventually led to his departure from the club. He left to join Barcelona in the January transfer window of 2022. He only played 24 games for the Catalans and scored 13 goals, then moved to Chelsea in September 2022.

The way Aubameyang left Arsenal upset many fans and tarnished his reputation at the club with many fans no longer appreciating him as a player. Nevertheless, when looking back at Aubameyang’s Arsenal career it is clear to see when he was on form, he was a fantastic striker and well worth the money even if the later stages of his career with the Gunners were ruined due to his bad attitude and behaviour towards the club. Although he may have ruined his own reputation with Gunners fans, it’s fair to say he managed to do what Arsenal wanted him to do and score goals, win trophies and get them back on the right track towards success.
