New Year, same old Arsenal?

Hello and welcome to 2017 all you new, young or old gooners out there! Another year on and has much changed this time last year? Wenger is still here, we as a team are still ticking over and looking to challenge for the league title. Do we honestly see ourselves as contenders though or are more and more of us getting to use to plodding on and accepting when we finish in the Champions League spots?

We might not even achieve that this season at this rate. Of course, I’m sure we will but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we need to be aiming higher and going out of our way to finish at the top of the Premier League. I get it’s not an easy thing to do but just when we seem to be on a high or on the brink of kicking on, we take two steps back and it’s simply not good enough. That will never ever stop me from supporting the team, that will never change but come on Arsenal let’s have an injection of positivity around the whole club! We need to unite as one again!

Anyway, on with the rest of the season, we’re nineteen Premier League games in, so halfway through the league season. We’re out of the League Cup but with the FA cup starting this week followed by the restart of our Champions League campaign, we have a lot to look forward to still. Therefore a handful of mates have decided to start doing match predictions for all of ours games each month now. If you fancy joining in please contact us by clicking here.

Tue 3rd Jan 19.75 Bournemouth (Away) Premier League – RESULT 3-3 DRAW
Bournemouth – Daniels (16), Wilson (21 pen), Fraser (58)
Arsenal – Alexis (70), Lucas (75), Giroud (90)

Giroud celebrates making it 3-3

A great come back from 3-0 down, but could we have won it in the end? We’ll never know. We were awful in the first half and weren’t in the game at all. Bournemouth must have thought they’d already won it and we then decided to start playing. Our predictions before the game were:

David : 2-1 Arsenal
Jason : 3-1 Arsenal
Alex : 2-0 Arsenal
Lewis : 1-1 draw
Vas : 3-1 Arsenal

Sat 7th Jan 17.30 Preston North End (Away) FA Cup 3rd Round – RESULT 2-1 WIN
Preston – Robinson (7)
Arsenal – Ramsey (46), Giroud (89)

Not the greatest of games or first half again from us. We had one or two chances but were poor overall and Preston got ahead. I do wonder what would have happened if Ramsey hadn’t scored immediately after half-time, would we of tried anymore? Something not quite right at the moment but Giroud in the last-minute once again saved us. Well played Jason, our predictions before the game were:

David : 1-3 Arsenal
Jason : 1-2 Arsenal
Alex : 0-2 Arsenal
Lewis : 1-3 Arsenal
Vas : 0-4 Arsenal

Sat 14th Jan 15.00 Swansea City (Away) Premier League – RESULT 0-4 WIN
Swansea –
Arsenal – Giroud (37), Cork (54 og), Naughton (67 og), Alexis (73)

In my opinion this result was never in doubt and in the end I was surprised we didn’t score more. Our predictions before the game were:

David : 0-2 Arsenal
Jason : 1-2 Arsenal
Alex : 1-3 Arsenal
Lewis : 0-2 Arsenal
Vas : 0-2 Arsenal

Sun 22nd Jan 14.15 Burnley (Home) Premier League – RESULT 2-1 WIN (just)
Arsenal – Mustafi (59), Alexis (90+2 pen)
Burnley – Gray (90+6 pen)

Wenger lost his head and was sent to the stands not for the first time. Manic goings on in injury time but that is why you never leave the ground early! Battling display with Vas (below) predicting the correct scoreline. Just. Our predictions before the game were:

David : 2-0 Arsenal
Jason : 1-0 Arsenal
Alex : 1-0 Arsenal
Lewis : 3-0 Arsenal
Vas : 2-1 Arsenal

Sat 28th Jan 17.30 Southampton (Away) FA Cup 4th Round – RESULT 5-0 WIN
Southampton –
Arsenal – Welbeck (15, 22), Walcott (36, 69, 85)

Good to see Welbeck back scoring after his injuries and a great Walcott hatrick. Even with our changes for the game, I don’t think any of us saw that scoreline coming! Our predictions before the game were:

David : 2-0 Arsenal
Jason : 3-1 Arsenal
Alex : 1-1 Arsenal
Lewis : 2-0 Arsenal
Vas : 2-1 Arsenal

Tue 31st Jan 19.45 Watford (Home) Premier League – RESULT 1-2 LOSS
Arsenal – Iwobi (58)
Watford – Kaboul (10), Deeney (13)

Alexis after our awful performance against Watford

Shocking first half, possibly the worst half of football I’ve seen in a long time, simply not good enough. Watford could have scored more than two easily. Save to say we got the score wrong. Our predictions before the game were:

David : 2-0 Arsenal
Jason : 3-0 Arsenal
Alex : 2-1 Arsenal
Lewis : 1-0 Arsenal
Vas : 1-0 Arsenal

What did she wear? She wore, she wore, She wore a yellow ribbon, She wore a yellow ribbon, In the merry month of May! And when, I asked, Oh why she wore her ribbon, She said it’s for The Arsenal, And we’re going to Wembley! Wembley, Wembley, We’re the famous Arsenal, And we’re going to Wembley!
